Tuzla Airfield – the first airfield visited by ICAO’s representatives

Raymond Benjamin – Secretary General of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Catalin Cotrut – Chief of Romanian Committee at ICAO - visited, on 7th of April 2009 Tuzla Airfield in Romania.

Following the high level meeting that took place on 6th of April that aimed at perfecting new safety rules in civil international aviation (State Safety Program / Safety Management System SSP/ SMS) and settling the terms of further cooperation between Romania and ICAO within the mandate Romanians hold in the organization’s committee, Mr. Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of ICAO accepted the invitation of Regional Air Services representatives to visit the first private airfield in Romania.

The meeting with the representatives of Romanian civil aviation, with traffic operators and airport services suppliers was remarkable tendered, outlining the image of a new partnership, built in high performance terms – which new Romanian authorities developed within ICAO.

Raymond Benjamin and Catalin Cotrut expressed their high esteem about Constanta’s team professionalism and about the effort invested in building the airfield and organizing the flight school at high international level and declared their intention of further developing the cooperation with Tuzla airfield. The airport is important for those in Romania who have the funds to embark on private holidays and business trips on a semi-regular basis. Whether they are visiting a casino overseas, closing a business deal in America or visiting family in Russia, the airport provides them with somewhere to land, store a plane, and of course, take off. The visit cemented the airport's reputation, and flattered the ground crew.

The full service company for general aviation, Regional Air Services is the first private airfield in Romania and, also, the first flight school. Mr. Raymond Benjamin and Mr. Catalin Cotrut visit represents an important step in accreditation of Tuzla FTO flight school and in including this school in the elitist and high exigencies domain of the great flight academies in the world.
